Griffin Structures is pleased to announce, on May 11th, 2010, the grand opening of the new Stanton Public Works Maintenance Yard. Griffin Structures served as Construction Manager for a new 8,000 s.f. maintenance building and a 6,000 s.f. administration building on a 1.5 acre unimproved site.
Crews are excited to move municipal vehicles, tools, and equipment from the outdated city yard to their new $6.2 million facility.
"We're looking good here in Stanton. I'm very proud of the facilities we're providing for our citizens," said Councilman Brian Donahue. Located at 8100 Pacific St., the new "Corporate Yard" is where the city's maintenance workers and their equipment will be based.
"We started planning this five years ago when we realized our existing facility needed replacing," said Nick Guilliam, Stanton's director of public works and its city engineer.
City officials mentioned this was the right time to build, receiving a better deal because of the soured economy.
The new facility includes a maintenance bay and covered parking for city vehicles, the city's Emergency Operations Center, a vault for storage of important city documents, and a fuel station that will offer unleaded gasoline and diesel fuel for city vehicles.
The maintenance bay and second floor of the office building includes sustainable features, such as daylighting opportunities, to reduce the amount of power needed for lighting.
The property will be monitored with 24-hour security cameras.
The old facility, on Bell Street, will be demolished. The land will be cleansed of any potential environmental hazards before the city determines what will be done with the property.
