Three Projects Awarded "2010 Project of the Year"

The American Public Works Association (APWA) Southern California Chapter has honored the following three Griffin Structures, Inc. projects as “2010 Project of the Year” in their individual categories:

1. Buena Park Police Department Headquarters
Category: Buildings
Buena Park Police Department took a major and progressive step forward when it moved from its old 1963 facility and into its new headquarters, two-weeks ahead of schedule. Designed to complement the existing Civic Center, the new 66,000-square-foot, two-story facility includes a Type-I jail, police dispatch center, onsite firing range, training facility, Emergency Operations Center, evidence storage, crime laboratory, physical training center, locker room, community and briefing rooms, administrative offices, and secured parking.

2. Tustin Main Library
Category: Buildings
The City of Tustin’s new 32,000-square-foot Main Library is not only green and sustainable, but is also the largest and most technologically-advanced branch in the Orange County Public Library system. Completing Tustin’s Civic Center, the single-story library features an adult computer section, teen-zone, children’s area of the library including a story time room and homework center, computer lab, meeting and study rooms, outdoor reading patios, a professional training facility/community room, and Friends of the Library bookstore. The library also provides a new public plaza―a focal point for the community to enjoy.

3. Stanton Corporate Yard
Category: Facilities
The City of Stanton’s Public Works Department recently moved into its new Corporate Yard facility. The City began planning for this project five years ago to replace the outdated city yard. Opened in May 2010, the project features a 6,000-square-foot administration building, an Emergency Operations Center, an 8,000-square-foot warehouse, vehicle maintenance bays with canopy structures, and a fueling station on a 1.5-acre site. The new facility also provides optimized and efficient space for all departmental functions.

The 2010 Project of the Year awards recognizes the partnership between the managing agencies, the consultants/architects/engineers, and the contractors who, working together, complete outstanding public works projects or programs. The awards are divided into nine categories that include Transportation, Water and Wastewater, Facilities, Buildings, Public Works Management, Recreation and Athletic Facilities, Drainage and Storm Water Quality, Sustainability, and Creative and Innovation.

"We, as a company, are extremely proud of our project team's dedication to these projects and honored to be recognized by the APWA for such great accomplishments," said Roger Torriero, CEO of Griffin Structures, Inc. "The Project of the Year award is a distinction that we share with the competent and engaged agencies who create responsive and thought-out projects for their communities."

Congratulations, from Griffin Structures, to the cities of Buena Park, Stanton, and Tustin for outstanding facilities!
