Laguna Beach Community / Senior Center & Subterranean Parking

This $12 million project began with detailed programming and planning for the Laguna Beach Senior Center under contract to the Laguna Beach Seniors, Inc., a private not-for-profit corporation.  The project evolved into turn-key program management for the Laguna Beach Senior Center, the City of Laguna Beach Community Center, and an associated underground common parking garage. This project demonstrates the integration of programming services and implementation.

The staggered two and three story parking structure features include (a) a photovoltaic trellis along one side of the exposed top level of the structure, which provides shaded parking as well as generation of all of the electrical and lighting needs for the structure, (b) a series of 15 ft. high "lifestyle" panels facing the existing pedestrian plaza entry into City Hall, on which can be displayed relevant and updateable photography, art, and graphics, (c) incorporation of "green screen" landscape walls and integrated planters mounted to the top level of the structure, and (d) a pedestrian shade canopy along the entire front face of the structure, providing a protected environment for Civic Center visitors.  Additionally, all of the 190 mature cypress trees currently on the civic center property will be preserved in the new site plan.
